The Problem:
All types of fish and fresh bait suffer when put into a livewell filled with surface temperature water that was warm to start with and has gotten hotter in an enclosed livewell.  The shock of being in a contained compartment and the hot temperature of the water in the livewell creates very unfavorable conditions for the fish.  Whether the fish loses scales, discharges waste, or utilizes oxygen in the water at an increased rate due to it's excited state, the result is bad.  The fish dies or is permanently harmed and dies after release.

Many state wildlife agencies are reviewing regulations that are meant to help reduce the amount of dead fish at tournaments.  Tournament anglers suffer penalties if they have a dead fish, and a fish losing weight can cause the angler to lose prize winnings.

The Solution:
KOOLWELL cools the livewell water temperature by 7 - 10 degrees or whatever you choose to keep the fish healthy.  Cool water helps to calm the fish and slow metabolism, lessening the chance of fish dying or being severely impacted otherwise.  KOOLWELL is a 12 volt system that draws 2 amps per hour when in operation and will lower the temperature in a typical 25 gallon live well by 10 degrees in 30 minutes.  After the water temperature has reached the desired level, the thermostat monitors the temperature to keep it optimum all day long.  In hot weather conditions, over a 4 hour period, KOOLWELL runs about ONE hour including the initial cool down.
